Good Causes
A long history of giving money to good causes…
Supporting the community is at the very heart of The New Football Pools having contributed over £1.1bn to arts, sporting and good causes since 1923.
From 1975 to 2000, Littlewoods, Vernons and Zetters provided virtually the only source of external funding for British football, through the Football Grounds Improvement Trust, and then via the Football Trust, established in 1979 channeling funds to assist clubs implement the recommendations contained in Lord Justice Taylor's report on the Hillsborough disaster.
Altogether almost £530 million was given to British football by the pools companies, providing an essential lifeline when the game's wealth was a fraction of what it enjoys today. It enabled clubs to rebuild, modernise and make their grounds safer and the game to tackle its social problems, helping transform the games attractiveness to television companies, sponsors and partners.
The legacy of the Trust can be seen in the scores of new and rebuilt stadiums in all parts of the UK – from Huddersfield, Sunderland, Reading and Bolton to Chester, Derby, Inverness Livingston and Scotland's Hampden Park – none of which would have been built in the 1980's and 1990's without Football Trust assistance.
Premier League Health
Continuing our support of good causes, the 08-09 season The New Football Pools joined forces with The Premier League in a new partnership to tackle men's health problems. Premier League Health is a unique £1.63 million scheme funded by The New Football Pools to improve men's health in deprived area across the country by working with 16 Premier League Clubs throughout the UK.
Make Every Player Count
A further £2.6 million of funding by The New Football Pools will help launch The Football League's Make Every Player Count campaign working with up to 40 Football League clubs across the country to engage in disability football.
Fit for Football, Fit for Life
In a major new scheme, The New Football Pools and The Scottish Football League has launched Fit for Football, Fit for Life. Just under £1million has been donated by The New Football Pools in this multi-channeled scheme that will tackle serious issues within the game, such as young people's heart screening, alcohol awareness training U16 and U19 training as well as the donations of a Defibrillator to every football club across the leagues.
Scottish Premier League
Further funding is planned by The New Football Pools to be injected into The Scottish Premier League's community projects in the 2009-10 season.
