MacPherson praises Buddies
16th November 2008
St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson hailed the character of his players after their second-half performance almost earned a draw against Rangers.
The Ibrox side appeared to be cruising to victory following goals from Kris Boyd and Steven Davis in the opening 10 minutes.
But poor finishing almost cost Rangers dearly when Franco Miranda hauled Saints back into the match with less than 10 minutes to go and the visitors pushed forward in search of a last-gasp draw.
Only the heroics of goalkeeper Allan McGregor prevented Craig Dargo from snatching a share of the points late on.
"The start of the game destroyed us and Rangers were at us right from the start of the game," he said. "They scored from their first attack and it was always going to be a difficult afternoon. It was just a case of hanging in there and giving ourselves an opportunity to get back into the game.
"We rode our luck but I have to give credit to the players for passing the ball well in the last 20 or 30 minutes. They showed a lot of character to get on the ball and pass it."
