Daly downs Saints

29th November 2008

Jon Daly's double returned Dundee United to winning ways as St Mirren's poor finishing consigned them to the bottom of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Daly headed home in the 37th minute and Dennis Wyness missed a glaring chance to level just after half-time.

Wyness, who has not scored since notching in Inverness' 4-0 win win over Gretna in October last year, missed his chance six minutes into the second half.

Franco Miranda's pass released Dargo on the left side of the box and he rolled the ball square to the unmarked Wyness, who sliced the ball well wide from 10 yards.

Saints then struggled to break the visitors down but Stephen McGinn hit the bar just before Daly sealed three Clydesdale Bank Premier League points with a late penalty after Jack Ross had brought down Craig Conway.
