City can rival Madrid - Robinho

16th November 2008

Robinho has pledged his long-term future to Manchester City and believes his new club have the potential to be as powerful in world football as his old one, Real Madrid.

The Brazilian joined City in a record-breaking £32.5million deal from Madrid, having spent the entire summer seeking a switch to Chelsea.

But the 24-year-old has insisted he did not make the move for money and wants to be part of a revolution at Eastlands following the club's takeover by the wealthy Abu Dhabi United Group.

"I hope to play here for many years," Robinho told the Daily Star Sunday. "I hope to make history at this club and become one of the great heroes at Manchester City. I'm in a very good phase and I hope this will continue.

"I'm enjoying it here, and my aim is to become the best player in the world. I hope I can do that here.

"I came to City because I saw them growing and making progress. Can they be as big as Real Madrid? I hope so, yes."
