Fletcher inspired by youth

3rd December 2008

Darren Fletcher has revealed the big names Sir Alex Ferguson calls upon to give their young Manchester United team-mates a helping hand against Blackburn will be inspired not deflated by the experience.

While it could be viewed as an unwanted chore to be asked to report for Carling Cup duty, Fletcher rejects the notion.

Instead, the Scotland midfielder feels one quick look around the dressing room to assess talents such as Rodrigo Possebon, Danny Welbeck and Darron Gibson will be enough to ensure the older heads remain fully committed at Old Trafford.

"The enthusiasm these young lads bring inspires you," said Fletcher. "Obviously you have to take a bit more responsibility but these young lads will be out there trying to impress.

"They will drive you on with their youthful exuberance and attitude towards the game. The professionalism within our squad means that whoever is included for that game will be right up for it. No matter who they are, players have to show they are good enough to be in the team every time they play.

"No-one can rest on their laurels because there are top quality players waiting to take your place if they don't perform."
