Captain Foster crowns fightback
15th November 2008
Barnsley defender Stephen Foster celebrated being named club captain this week by firing the winner as his side hit back to beat Coca-Cola Championship strugglers Watford 2-1 at Oakwell.
Foster, who officially succeeded Sheffield United-bound Brian Howard as skipper, swept the ball home from close range in the 71st minute.
The 28-year-old's third goal of the season completed an impressive turnaround for the Tykes, who had hauled themselves level through substitute Miguel Mostto just two minutes earlier.
Mostto scored his first goal of the season from close range in the 69th minute to cancel out Tommy Smith's second-half opener for the visitors.
Foster's winner ensured Barnsley ended a troubled seven days on a high.
Striker Iain Hume is recovering in hospital after fracturing his skull against Sheffield United last week, while manager Simon Davey was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after being sent to the stands in the same match.
