Hume hails fans' support

19th November 2008

Barnsley striker Iain Hume has paid tribute to the club's supporters after the numerous messages of support he has received from the Tykes faithful.

The 25-year-old Canada international has been released from Salford Royal Hope Hospital and is recovering at home with a fractured skull after he was struck in the head by Chris Morgan's elbow during Barnsley's recent home defeat to Sheffield United.

Hume told the club's website: "I would like to thank everybody for so many cards, e-mails and messages of support through what has been a very difficult week both for my family and for me. The support of Barnsley fans has been overwhelming and it has meant so much to us.

"My father was listening to the game on Saturday and he told me that the Barnsley supporters did not stop signing my name throughout the whole 90 minutes.

"That means the world to me and that show of support really touched my family, who have been through hell.

"I have had messages from all over the world but having my own supporters rally round me like that means more than anything. It has been a great comfort and something I will never forget."
