Benitez denies Owen link

2nd December 2008

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez denied he is eyeing up a move for Michael Owen after seeing his side draw a blank against West Ham.

Without the talismanic Fernando Torres, Liverpool looked toothless up front but went top of the Premier League following the goalless draw with the Hammers.

Benitez admitted that Irish striker Robbie Keane was frustrated with his withdrawal in the second half, and went on to deny any link with a transfer window move for former Red Owen.

"Robbie Keane, when he came off, was disappointed. But players always want to be out on the pitch for 90 minutes, but we were thinking of different solutions and David Ngog did well," said Benitez.

"We will have Fernando Torres back soon, and I can assure everyone that clearly we are not going for Michael Owen. Clearly.

"Every week it changes. We have won more point so if we win at Blackburn next we will stay top. We should enjoy it, we have one more point and everyone should be pleased."
