We got what we deserved - McLeish

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish slammed his players after they crashed out of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 second-round defeat at Southampton.

Blues rarely threatened and were beaten by goals in either half from Lee Holmes and Adam Lallana.

"We didn't start the game well and I can't say we got on any better as the game went on. We were really poor and couldn't even find another player in the same shirt," he said.

"That's to take nothing away from Southampton because they played thoroughly well and deserved their victory.

"I'd like to say we deserved something out of the game but we got exactly what we deserved and we lost to the better side on the night."
