We can push on - Coleman

27th August 2008

Coventry manager Chris Coleman has urged his side to build on their impressive Carling Cup performance against Newcastle.

The Sky Blues were eventually beaten 3-2 by Kevin Keegan's Premier League side, but only after fighting back from 2-0 down to take the tie into extra-time.

Coleman was delighted with the spirit shown by his players, and told the club's official website: "We had a never-say-die attitude. After 40 minutes we were 2-0 down and could easily have gone under, but we never did and that's full credit to the lads."

He added: "However, I said before the Newcastle game that the league is our bread and butter, end of story. Our performance was fantastic, but we have to take that type of character into Saturday.

"We finished fifth from bottom last year, and we have to do better than that. We had an edge against Newcastle, particularly in the second 45 minutes, and we've got to maintain it."
