Chappers' Football Pools Podcasts
Podcast panelist and now Football Pools pundit, Crystal Palace Kevin Day is pretty darn confident about his chances in the Football Pools Pundit's League. And having been a regular on Match of the Day 2 for a good four years, perhaps his confidence is well founded or perhaps it turn out to be the comedian's funniest joke yet!

What are your memories about the Football Pools?
My memories of the pools include being very cross that my parents used the same numbers and perms every week rather than listening to my predictions and being very, very cross when those daft Australian teams appeared because it meant the end of proper football for the summer (especially when a mate who emigrated wrote to say these teams were playing in parks with dogs on the pitch)
I also suspected that the 'pools man' who came every week wanted to do more than tick my mum's no publicity box but that might not be the sort of memory you are after.
You're a member of the Football Pools 'Celebrity Pools panel', are you up for that challenge and how do you think you'll do?
My previous atrocious record of predicting results doesn't prevent me from confidently predicting I will marmalise them all.
Hansen, Barnes, Cascarino et al have only played football at the very highest level, they haven't spoken about it at length to idiots in pubs and therefore lack my insight. Besides if I can't do better than a grumpy golfer, a rapper and a hairdresser then we might as well all go home.
Who's going to be the most competitive of the podcast celebs?
Probably Graham, but he can be as competitive as he likes, I will still win.
Who is your footballing hero?
George Best. For me the most exciting footballer the world has produced. I never tire of watching videos of him and I have vivid memories of watching him play as a very small child (I was the small child, not him) and hearing girls in the crowd scream every time he touched the ball.
Do you have a current hero or are you too old / too cynical for that?
Obviously Neil Warnock has unexpectedly turned out to be the best manager in the world and not a chippy northern git as we previously thought.
But I would have to answer Dougie Freedman, a fine and under rated player who has given Palace more than a decade of loyal service and who invited me to join him for a drink after his testimonial.
Who's your early season favourites for the Premier League and Championship titles
Chelsea. I think Scolari will liberate the talent there this season. I think Arsenal will thrill us all and fall away for lack of depth, and I think United will fail to recover from a slow start through injuries and Rooney getting a rare disease in Nigeria (Thank you God).
The Championship, well that's much harder to call. Probably Birmingham because he has kept his squad together. I think Reading players are a bunch of sulkers who will take time to re adjust, but you could make a case for ten teams at least, including Palace, with Southampton as my dark horses.
You could probably argue that Doncaster are the only team in that division without at least play off ambitions.
I can also see Paul Jewell as the most under pressure manager: Derby have sold 20,000 season tickets and Jewell spent all last season slagging off his own team - if they are not top six by October he will be in trouble and I don't think they will be.
As a Crystal Palace fan do you prefer winning lots of games in the Championship or struggling in the Premier League?
Er, could I go for winning in the Premiership? In all honesty I would settle for finishing 7th in the Championship any day.
The Premiership is a dreadful place when staying in it is the limit of your dreams - if you don't go down this year, you'll go down eventually (as Wigan fans will find out) and actually being able to watch decent teams in the flesh is over rated when those decent teams are walking all over you.
That's why MOTD2 is the perfect job. I get to see Premiership football with no emotional involvement and I get to watch Palace.
