Strafford remaining positive

10th May 2010

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford has assured Owls fans relegation has not "dampened his enthusiasm" in his bid to get the club back in the big time.

Wednesday will operate in the third tier of English football next season for the third time in five years, but Strafford, appointed to the board in January 2009 to oversee future investment, insists plans are in place to help bring the Owls long-term success.

In the wake of the last-day draw with Crystal Palace which sealed Wednesday's fate, Strafford said: "Over the coming weeks the club's business plan will be revised and updated and once this is complete we will publish our strategy to manage the challenge ahead, something all Wednesdayites will play a key role in."

"We all want Sheffield Wednesday to compete at as high a level as possible and relegation has not dampened my enthusiasm to ensure that this club is successful in the long term.

"We will not shirk any endeavour or responsibility in striving to restore this club to where we want it to be and we will only propel Sheffield Wednesday on a positive pathway with the backing of all Wednesdayites working together."
