Blackwell signs new deal

4th December 2008

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has signed a one-year contract extension at Bramall Lane, committing himself to the Coca-Cola Championship club until 2012.

The former Leeds and Luton manager put pen to paper at a pre-arranged press conference where directors Simon McCabe and Terry Robinson announced the new deal.

Robinson said: "Kevin is a breath of fresh air to the club, he has a plan which he has put in place and the club is going to grow.

"We know he is going to achieve the goal we are all aiming for and he has the full backing of the Sheffield United board and plc."

Blackwell, number two to Neil Warnock at Bramall Lane before leaving in 2003 to take up a coaching post at Leeds - where he later became manager - replaced previous Blades boss Bryan Robson in February and transformed the club's fortunes last season when they missed out on the play-offs by four points.
