Martinez hopeful on Gomez deal
4th December 2008
Swansea manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful of being able to sign Jordi Gomez on a permanent basis but admitted any deal will have to wait until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old midfielder is on loan at the Liberty Stadium for a season from La Liga side Espanyol, but the Spanish outfit have sacked manager Tintin Martinez and replaced him with former Athletic Bilbao boss Mane which could influence his future.
"He has a year-long loan with us and we signed him because we know he has huge potential," Martinez told the club's official website.
"When the season finishes we will have to see what the situation is with Espanyol, Jordi and Swansea City. Right now, Espanyol have a new manager so it will take time for him to settle in and see what options he has available.
"I knew there was going to be a settling period for Jordi but it did not take too long for him to adapt. He is a joy to watch and we have been delighted with him.
"It is great to see him enjoying his football with us and now he has to continue that standard."
