Gibson: Worst times are behind us
17th March 2010
Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has renewed his commitment to the club after predicting "the worst times" are now behind it.
The Teessiders are six points adrift of the Coca-Cola Championship play-off places after the 2-2 draw at Derby and 23 shy of an automatic promotion spot with just nine games to go.
However, as he appealed to the club's fans to renew their season cards, Gibson was optimistic for a new future under manager Gordon Strachan. In a message to Boro's 14,000 existing season card holders, he said: "As we look forward, let me assure you that my commitment to Middlesbrough Football Club remains as strong as ever.
"I am the chairman, but first and foremost I am a lifelong Boro fan. I am determined to do all I can, not only to take Middlesbrough back into the Premier League, but to continue to punch above our weight, just as we have done for the majority of the past 15 years.
"But we need you. We recognise that these are difficult times for many of you, but the income generated from season cards is vital to the continued ability to punch above our weight in a sport driven by money.
"Every spare penny will be invested into developing the team. Our worst times are behind us and we can all start to look forward to brighter times. Now, more than ever, is a time for club and supporters to unite. I won't walk away from Middlesbrough Football Club. It's in my blood. I know it's in yours too."

Duo to miss Rams clashManchester City's new signing Adam Johnson is one hell of a player and extremely talented. Lots of clubs have targeted him in the past for his ability to beat his full-back and get down the wings. However, I am surprised he has gone to City as he may well struggle ...
