Jennings unsure why Everton won't use duo
12th March 2010
Steve Jennings cannot believe why his boyhood idols Everton have not given Motherwell team-mates John Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz a chance.
The midfielder is keen to extend his spell at Motherwell beyond the summer but fears for Craig Brown's quest to keep top goalscorer Jutkiewicz and goalkeeper Ruddy, who has kept 15 Clydesdale Bank Premier League clean sheets ahead of the visit of Hearts.
Jennings, whose own Goodison Park career finished at 16, would be happy to see both players turning out in a blue shirt next season, and said: "I'm a big Evertonian so for two of our boys to come here it's been really good to play with them. It just goes to show what good signings they were - one is leading goalscorer, one has the most clean sheets, take that away who knows where we would have been.
"They are two fantastic players and it will certainly be a hard job for Motherwell to keep them on loan with the form they have been in. I'm expecting them to get fairly big moves in the summer, whether it be back to Everton or another club. I think they both deserve it."
Jennings was surprised in January that Everton did not recall the pair, who have both made just one first team appearance for their employers.
"Certainly you would think so if someone comes up here and scores 10 goals - and I don't think he started off the best either," the former Tranmere player said. "As for John you just have to let his performances do the talking. I'm quite shocked Everton haven't been knocking on the door to get them back down but it just goes to show that standards at Everton must be pretty high."
Well and good
Brown playing the long game
Brown keen to move on after stalemateThe last time Motherwell beat Rangers at Ibrox was in 1997 - a 2-0 win, with both goals scored by Owen Coyle - and with Ranger the only remaining unbeaten side in the SPL, it's asking a lot for Motherwell to put an end to that 11 year run here ...
Motherwell v Celtic: Bhoys Back on Top
Celtic may be unbeaten in their last five matches away at Motherwell but there is an air of bitterness when they face Motherwell. The Steelman last exerted some power and defeated the Bhoys on the last day of the 2004/05 season; a result which meant Celtic lost out on the ...
